Can I Start Blogging With My Android Phone? Here’s Your Answer

Most people who blog, talk about blogging or teach blogging to others will say that blogging should be done using a laptop or desktop PC. But is it actually possible to simply start blogging with your smartphone? Short Answer: Yes. Personally, I have an Android and it’s quite a big one as phones go. Do I blog with it? No. But could I if I wanted to? Well, yeah, I could. Stick with me if you want to know how this can be done and the reasons why I or any blogger very occasionally might, but usually wouldn’t do so.

Here’s how you can start blogging with your phone

Okay, this is how I would go about it and you can either follow this method or something similar.

Step 1 would be to head over to Wealthy Affiliate. You can read my review of Wealthy Affiliate here.

It lets you start a membership for free and you can get hosting for 1 free WordPress website. No credit card required.

Okay, once you’re inside, you’ll be able to head over to the Websites tag/menu and build a free website in no time at all.

Create a free website inside Wealthy Affiliate

It will be a WordPress website which is arguably the best and most popular type to go for. It is possible to login to your site from your mobile device.

Once logged in, you’ll be able to do all you need: customise your site, add content, etc.

So, let’s say you want to write a post. You would just go to ‘Posts’ on the left hand side in your WordPress site’s back-office.

Here’s a few pictures of me doing this on my phone:

Navigating to the menu options: Posts
Now I can add a new post
Now I’m in a post that I’m working on/editing

As you can see, it is indeed possible to start blogging using only your Android phone, or Apple phone, or any smartphone for that matter. Of course, the only other essential thing you require is internet connection.

To add images, you can download royalty free images from places like PIxabay, Unsplash and Pixels. Then simply upload them to your site from within WordPress editor. It’s all possible. Only difference really between a phone and laptop is the physical size. Of course, there’s more storage on a laptop as well but a website is online, meaning that even if you download images on to a device in order to get them on to your site, you can always delete said downloads from your device after you’ve uploaded them to your website.

Why do blogging with a smartphone?

Okay, I’m gonna say it, blogging with a phone is one of the DUMBEST ideas I’ve ever heard of. Hahahaha!!! But anyway, let’s just look at some possible reasons whey someone might go for it anyway:

  • I can’t afford a laptop! Okay, this is probably the main reason why someone might want to get started blogging with an Android phone (or any phone). But come on. Why on earth can’t you afford a laptop if you already have a smartphone? How long will it take to save enough money to at least buy a second hand laptop? Blogging on a phone sucks. It’s too damn SMALL! You almost certainly won’t enjoy blogging on a dinky little android device that’s probably no larger than your hand, if not even smaller.
  • I just like the idea of doing it all from my phone. Well, trust me, the novelty will wear off. What you are really doing is inconveniencing yourself. If you want to be a blogger, just do it properly. Use a computer like every other blogger who actually gets anywhere with their blog. That’s my humble advice.
  • I want to make money ASAP! Working on a phone slows you down. In the long run, you’re far better off getting a laptop. It’s portable, convenient and efficient. If you want to be a blogger, you should invest. You should get real. Again, that’s just more of my humble advice.
  • My PC is lost/stolen. Okay, that’s a good one. But even then I still wouldn’t resort to using my phone. It wouldn’t be too long before I got another computer. But you’re totally free to try blogging with your phone, no matter what your circumstances are. At the end of the day, it’s your choice of course.

As a blogger, a laptop is probably your best bet

I love the portability of my laptop. I can work at home but I can also slip my laptop in a bag and blog from anywhere I want.

I can go to a cafe, a library, even a pub and it’s all there – my online business.

On a train journey, I can whip out the laptop and work away. I’ve even done some blog drafts while on a plane flight.

Ideally, you don’t just want a computer but a good one. A computer that really suits your needs and has a long life in it and plenty of storage. Since blogging is a long term thing, you want to give it your all. You want to invest and be happy with your device. Maybe even get a monitor for when you’re at home. I had a lovely curved Samsung monitor for a long time till it conked out. Now I use an HP one. I can play some quiet electro music like Deep House mixes etc. while working and it all works out nicely for me. A big screen that’s high enough from table suits me better than always bending over a rather small laptop.

A workspace is also important while we’re on the topic of creating convenience for your blogging experience. Have a good workplace that isn’t cluttered or in a distracting area. A nice plant or two and you’ll have a nice setup.

Stating blogging is one thing, but it means nothing if you don’t stay at it. You need to be in for the long haul if you are thinking about blogging.
