What are you really looking for when you want to make money online?

Personally, I think a lot of people who are looking to make money online are really looking for a way to get paid without working. That’s pretty much what it boils down to.

Okay, sure – there are those who really want to help others and are willing to put in a lot of work in order to have a business that benefits other people but I’d say those kind of genuine entrepreneurs are always going to be few and far between.

Making money online are three words that I’m sick to death of hearing and seeing on the internet. It’s such a racket. The whole thing is filled to the brim with dudes wanting you to buy get rich quick schemes or join pyramid schemes. And they target the same old people all the time: those who want a shortcut to money.

Then there’s endless accounts of people coming out and saying with rage, “I got SCAMED!!!” Well that’s because you were looking to cheat the system yourself. So bad luck but I don’t feel all that sorry for you. Scams are usually what happens to those who are a) a little dumb and b) lazy.

Those are usually the kinds of people who fall for scams on the internet. Those people will always be there and there will always be others doing their best to catch them out.

You see, here’s the thing. If you’re out to find a way to get money without deserving it, you will probably end up losing money and thinking that you didn’t deserve to lose that money. But to an extent, maybe you did deserve to lose some money.

Why should you be paid big money anyway?

Money shouldn’t be available for people who don’t want to do their bit for others. Money shouldn’t be for people who want to sit on their asses and do nothing all day. Or for people who just want to enjoy life. You can enjoy life in that kind of way when you retire. But life isn’t about just enjoying yourself. It’s never worked that way otherwise the economy would collapse.

Some guru tells you that you can make $500 a day with no experience and with only a few minutes of work per day and you believe him and invest. It doesn’t work and you feel betrayed. Okay, poor you. But honestly, you don’t deserve to be making $500 a day with no experience and only 15-20 minutes of work per day.

And believe me, there are any number of stupid programs out there making ridiculous claims like that. This one below for example. But there are even more outrageous ones than this.

Get rich quick opportunity with exaggerated promises.

Some people are out there charging people 5 grand for a course on how to make money online. Liam Kay for example. Then there’s John Crestani of course who pushes a pricey course and basically tells students to go out and promote it for him.

These guys are there to make money off you and anyone else who is living in the fantasy of doing basically nothing and yet being wealthy at the same time.

But how is charging all that money so that you have the privilege to promote their courses even ethical? Plus there are so many costs besides these courses themselves.

And again, what’s really the point in just making money but not providing anything to other people or contributing to the quality of other lives? If all you want to do is promote a program that gets others to promote the same thing, then your career is non-existent. What are you about? What do you want to do? Just have an easy life? But that can lead to low self-esteem, depression and all sorts of other problems including severe anxiety.

So I think it turns out that just having money isn’t enough to lead a balanced, happy life. A lot of it really has to do with how you make your money in life.

We all have skills and qualities that we can use in a fulfilling way that will also make us money. And when I say fulfilling, I mean producing or doing something that benefits other people.

So, that’s what I think you should really be looking for when you decide that you want to ‘make money online.’

Some people are into writing and can do it well. They then share what they write with others and its only fair that they get paid as a result.

Others produce physical products and it’s only fair that they also get paid.

But these people who go on and on about wanting to ‘make money online’ come across as cringy to me. They don’t really want to share what they’re about and what they have to offer with others. No, they just want money. And it’s all too easy to say ‘oh well, you know, I really want money so that I can spend quality time with my family and do good things with it.’ But I say you shouldn’t want an entire life of just spending money on family and getting that money for almost nothing. Life in my opinion, should be balanced. And believe me, there’s much more to life than making money, spending it and relaxing. That’s not really living in the fullest sense. It’s existing in leisure.

Okay, now what?

Find what you’re about. Find what you’re good at. What is it you want to do besides just getting money by a push button method that doesn’t exist?

Once you have a good idea of what you’re meant to do in life, then go for it! Go to collage or get a job related to that skill or passion.

Alternatively, start a business based around it. But don’t start a business just to make money or so that you don’t need to use that gift or ability that you have and should be sharing with the world.

What if what’s really in you is to be a doctor or an artist but you’ve been so distracted by the idea of ‘making money online,’ that your precious gift which might have benefited thousands of people, goes to waste?

So think very carefully about whether you are betraying yourself if you go down the route of an ‘online business’ which might really just be a pursuit of finding a way to do as little as possible but still get big money.

If you are still determined to start an online business, then do it in a way that enables you to use whatever skill you have and for the good of other people.

Many people are attracted to the idea of earning money quickly, without putting in the effort, often falling victim to get-rich-quick schemes or pyramid schemes.
